What is the timeline for chargeback resolution?

Updated over 2 months ago

Overview

A chargeback happens when your card issuer reverses a Payova transaction after you or your bank dispute it. The resolution process is regulated by card networks (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover) and may take several weeks. Payova works with your bank to investigate, provide documentation, and return funds when appropriate.

Key points:

  • Chargeback timelines are set by card networks and banks.

  • Most cases are resolved within 30–90 days.

  • You’ll receive updates as the process moves forward.

Typical Timeline

1. Dispute Filed (Day 0–3)

  • You file a dispute with your bank.

  • Payova is notified by the card network.

2. Review & Documentation (Day 3–20)

  • Payova investigates the transaction.

  • We provide evidence to your bank (e.g., receipts, proof of delivery, fraud checks).

3. Bank Decision (Day 20–60)

  • Your card issuer reviews Payova’s response.

  • They decide whether to uphold or reverse the chargeback.

4. Final Resolution (Day 60–90)

  • Funds are either returned to you or the original charge is reinstated.

  • Both Payova and your bank notify you of the outcome.
